YouTubing the Election

These days political parties use social networking sites such as Facebook and other sites such as YouTube as a way of reaching voters. As such we're going to point you in the direction of YouTube and Facebook sites to see what the parties have to say themselves.

Labour has a YouTube channel, it took a long time to find and it's only got 5 (very old) videos. I'm not going to post a video from it purely because nothing is even remotely relevant to the political situation today. For shame.

Helen Clark can be found on Facebook however and currently has 2,025 supporters.

National has taken to social networking like a fish to water. In the video below John Key discusses the recent 'dirty tricks' with the recording at a National conference, various policies including tax cuts and infrastructure and the all-important Facebook. You can check out their YouTube channel too.

Facebook also has a page on John Key and he currently has 5,263 supporters.
No YouTube channel for New Zealand First but then again it's hardly New Zealand First's target market. Winston Peters also doesn't have an official Facebook Page.

The Greens have used their YouTube channel to push the issues they care about, the ad below highlights what the Greens consider important.

The Greens are totally up on Facebook. Jeanette Fitzsimons has her own page (with 118 friends), as does co-leader Russel Norman (146 supporters) and the party also has a page, with 679 fans.
The Maori Party are pretty media savvy. Here's Pita Sharples telling you about his website and his Facebook (which you can see here, he has 77 friends)... you can check out their channel here.

No YouTube channel for United Future either but Peter Dunne has a Facebook presence
Act don't have a YouTube channel or Facebook presence but I did discover this rather amusing announcement of Roger Douglas's return to politics.

Oh, and for reference, Edulection doesn't have a YouTube account but we do have a Facebook one. Go join and show your support for becoming educated on the election!
